Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was born in 1510 to a noble family in Salamanca, Spain. He decided he did not want to inherit the family title or estate. So to get his fortune he was going to travel to the new world. In 1535 he set sail for New Spain, and married a young woman named Beatriz, the daughter of a man named Alonso de Estrada. They were married within a year of his arrival. He then left for the new world. There was a roomer going around about the seven golden cities, after Coronado got to the new world. He decided to lead an expedition to the seven golden cities. He lead about 300 Spaniards, over 1,000 Indians, along with cattle, pigs, and horses. They left in February of 1540. It took almost four months to get to the city of Cibola. The city of Cibola which was the first of many cities in the 7 golden cities. This is where the Apache lived. The Apache were a large group of Native Americans that did not want to give up their home as the Spanish wanted them to. A war broke out between the apaches and the Spanish. During the battle Coronado was hit by a rock and wounded. He then had to go back to New Spain where he died in 1554.
